Richard L. Wahl, MD, the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor and head of the Department of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine, has been elected president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. He will serve a one-year term as president-elect and then step into the presidency in July 2021.

Adia Harvey Wingfield, the Mary Tileston Hemenway Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, received The Society for the Study of Social Problems’ C. Wright Mills Award for her 2019 book, “Flatlining: Race, Work, and Health Care in the New Economy.”

Derek Hoeferlin, chair of landscape architecture and urban design at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been named a University Design Research Fellow for Exhibit Columbus 2020-21.

Bradley Jolliff, the Scott Rudolph Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences in Arts & Sciences and director of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences, has been awarded the 2020 Eugene Shoemaker Distinguished Scientist Medal by NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute, recognizing significant contributions to planetary science throughout his career.

John Lynch, MD, professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Meanwhile, Katherine Henderson, MD, assistant professor of clinical medicine at the School of Medicine, has been named the hospital’s chief medical officer.

Raman Malhotra, MD, associate professor of neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, a professional society dedicated to sleep medicine. He will serve as president-elect this year and take over as president in 2021.

Richard Loomis, professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, won the American Chemical Society’s 2020 Saint Louis Section Award.

The newly formed Division of Physician-Scientists at Washington University School of Medicine has selected five physicians for its inaugural Dean’s Scholar Program, which provides up to two years of financial support and mentorship to aspiring, early-career physician-scientists, along with dedicated time for conducting laboratory research.

Rebecca J. Lester, professor of sociocultural anthropology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, won a 2020 Victor Turner Prize in Ethnographic Writing for her book, “Famished: Eating Disorders and Failed Care in America.”

Washington University in St. Louis recently was selected to receive an Environmental Protection Agency 2020 Pollution Prevention Award.
