d’Avignon wins 2013 American Chemical Society Award
Washington University in St. Louis chemist D. André
d’Avignon, who manages the university’s high-resolution nuclear magnetic
resonance facility, has been named the winner of the 2013 Saint Louis
Award. The Saint Louis Award, administered by the St. Louis section of the American Chemical
Society, is given to an individual who has made outstanding
contributions to the profession of chemistry and demonstrated the potential
to further the advancement of the chemical profession.
Snyder-Warwick named secretary of medical society
Alison K. Snyder-Warwick, MD, assistant professor of
surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, was installed in
June as secretary of the Sir Charles Bell Society at the International Facial Nerve Symposium in Boston.
Evens to chair National Library of Medicine Board
Ronald Evens, MD, professor of radiology at the School
of Medicine and of medical economics at the Olin Business School, has
been appointed chairman of the Board of Regents for the National Library
of Medicine.
Ferkol new president-elect of thoracic society
Thomas W. Ferkol, MD,
the Alexis Hartmann, MD, Professor of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine, has been installed as
president-elect of the American Thoracic Society (ATS).
Pérez honored for excellence in teaching
Julio E. Pérez, MD, professor of medicine, has received multiple honors this year for excellence in teaching. The American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis each have recognized Pérez as a gifted educator and mentor in the field of cardiology.
Cole elected to March of Dimes national board

and vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Washington University
School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected to the March of Dimes
National Board of Trustees.
Fisher nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year
2013 WUSTL graduate and volleyball player Marilee Fisher has made the initital list of contenders for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the NCAA recently announced. Fisher, who majored in chemistry, in Arts & Sciences, is one of 455 student-athletes across all NCAA divisions and sports vying for the award.
Rao named fellow of national statistical society
Dabeeru C. Rao, PhD, director of the Division of Biostatistics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society.
Fox receives achievement award
Joe Fox, associate dean for MBA Programs at Olin Business School, received the Sterling H. Schoen Achievement Award at The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management’s Orientation Program June 9 in New Orleans.
