Peters to receive Spirit of St. Louis Medal

David A. Peters, PhD, McDonnell Douglas Professor of Engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has been selected to receive the 2013 Spirit of St. Louis Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for his service in the advancement of aeronautics and astronautics.

Dacey receives award from neurosurgeons’ association

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) has presented Ralph G. Dacey Jr., MD, with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award. The award is one of the highest honors bestowed on a member, recognizing exemplary service to the AANS and the neurosurgical specialty.

‘What’s Right’ with a community partner

Jamie Jordan, principal of Brittany Woods Middle School in the University City School District, accepts one of 20 “What’s Right With the Region!” awards from Focus St. Louis May 9. WUSTL is a key partner with Brittany Woods through the Institute for School Partnership, which conducts training and outreach programs at the school, and the Brown School, where the middle school is part of its urban education initiative.

Focus on renewable energy

PARC and I-CARES recently honored three seniors who completed the Certificate in Renewable Energy and the Environment, which allows students to pursue interdisciplinary energy studies in addition to their academic major.

OT student receives leadership award

Erin Sanborn, a doctoral student in the School of Medicine’s Program in Occupational Therapy, is the recipient of the 2013 Women in Science Rosalind Kornfeld Leadership Award given by the Academic Women’s Network at the university.

Anthropology student Alena Wigodner receives NSF award

Alena Wigodner, a junior anthropology major in Arts & Sciences, has been selected for a new National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program titled “Angel Mounds REU Site: Multidisciplinary Training for Students in Environmental and Social Sciences through Archaeological Research.”

Eberlein honored for support of female faculty

Timothy Eberlein, chairman of the Department of Surgery, has been named the inaugural winner of the Pillar of Support Award. The award was created by the Academic Women’s Network at the School of Medicine to recognize outstanding support of female faculty.
