Bear Cub Challenge awardees announced

The Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship has awarded Bear Cub grants to two Washington University researchers. The award recipients are David T. Curiel, MD, PhD, and Nancy Tye-Murray, PhD.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund awards two researchers $700,000 each

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has recognized two researchers at the School of Medicine for their studies in pulmonary medicine and cardiology. The two — among 14 scientists selected nationally to receive the BWF 2015 Career Award for Medical Scientists — are Jennifer Alexander-Brett, MD, PhD, and Kory J. Lavine, MD, PhD.

Fortner receives SNO Emerging Investigator Award​

John Fortner, PhD, assistant professor in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis, has received the 2015 Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization Emerging Investigator Award.​

Mossotti, Ward-Brown win Regional Arts Commission Artist Fellowships

Denise Ward-Brown, associate professor in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, and poet Travis Mossotti, a grant analyst in the university’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, are among 10 recipients of the Regional Arts Commission’s 2015 Artist Fellowships.

​Pappu joins new St. Jude, Scripps Research Institute initiative​

Rohit Pappu, PhD, the Edwin H. Murty Professor of Engineering at Washington University’s School of Engineering & Applied Science, will help spearhead the newly formed Human Dark Proteome Initiative, launched Nov. 9 by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Scripps Research Institute.
