The Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences has selected Shyam Akula as the inaugural recipient of the Quatrano Prize, which will be awarded annually for the most creative biology thesis project.

David Mutch, MD, the Ira C. and Judith Gall Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named co-chair of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee.

Victoria J. Fraser, MD, head of the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the Citation of Merit from the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Lerone Martin, assistant professor of religion and politics in the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis, has been awarded a 2016-2017 American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowship for a research project titled “J. Edgar Hoover’s Stained Glass Window: The FBI and Christian America.” Martin’s research on Hoover also earned a 2016 book grant from the Louisville Institute for the Study of American Religion.

The Olin Business School recently honored several graduates who have attained distinction in their careers at its 30th Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner, held at the Ritz-Carlton April 15.

John Bowen, a sociocultural anthropologist and the Dunbar-Van Cleve Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named a 2016 Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Corp. of New York.
