Henry L. “Roddy” Roediger III, an internationally recognized scholar of human memory and the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences, has received the the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Science.
Markovina receives early-career research training award
Stephanie Markovina, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of radiation oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine, has received the 2016 Junior Faculty Career Research Training Award from the American Society for Radiation Oncology. She will receive a two-year, $200,000 grant as part of the recognition.
McLeod Writing Prize winners named
The winners of the annual Dean James E. McLeod Writing Prize are Adon Wade-Currie and Olivia Crow, who shared first prize, and Emily Wyland, who received an honorable mention, announced Jennifer Smith, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
ISP receives funding for STEM teacher program
The Monsanto Fund has awarded the Institute for School Partnership (ISP) at Washington University in St. Louis a $200,000 grant to support the STEM Teacher Quality program, or STEM TQ, which helps elementary school teachers integrate science, technology, engineering and math into their curriculum.
Lang named chair of NIH study section
Catherine Lang, a professor of physical therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will serve a two-year term as the chairperson of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Sciences Study Section, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific Review.

Program allows nurses to receive bachelor’s degrees tuition-free
A group of eight Washington University registered nurses (RNs) received bachelor’s of science degrees in nursing in August as part of a new program that allows university RNs tuition remission when they pursue bachelor’s degrees at Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College.
