Raymond E. Arvidson, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, will receive the Weidenbaum Center Award for Excellence Medal. The award will be given at a ceremony held during the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy annual dinner April 2. This award honors individuals who have made major contributions to both scholarship and public service. 

Bryce Sadtler, assistant professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been awarded a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award by the National Science Foundation. His grant, expected to total more than $610,000 over the next five years, is for research to identify the structural characteristics that make some catalysts better than others for harvesting energy from the sun.

The Washington University Office of Recreation received several national awards March 4 during the 2018 NIRSA conference in Denver. NIRSA is a national organization of collegiate recreation professionals.

Chris Mitchell, assistant athletic director for communications, is the recipient of the 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America Warren Berg award, an honor bestowed on communicators who have brought “dignity and prestige to the profession.” 

Dedric Carter, vice chancellor for operations and technology transfer at Washington University in St. Louis, will be one of two keynote speakers at the 2018 InvestMidwest Venture Capital Forum March 29 in St. Louis.

Mark McDaniel, professor of psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences, is one of three leading experts in cognitive and learning sciences appointed as permanent members of a Learning Research Advisory Council formed by Macmillan Learning.

Jack H. Ladenson, the Oree M. Carroll and Lillian B. Ladenson Professor of Clinical Chemistry in Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the 2017 Distinguished Award for Contributions to Cardiovascular Diagnostics from the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry.

Meghan McDarby, a graduate student in psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been selected for a James McKenney Student Travel Award from the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

Mark Anastasio has been appointed chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biomedical Imaging Technology B Study Section (BMIT-B) for a two-year term beginning July 1. He is professor of biomedical engineering and of electrical and systems engineering at the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis.

Abram C. Van Engen, associate professor of English in Arts & Sciences, organized a national conference on “Religion and Politics in Early America.” Sponsored by the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics and the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, the conference took place March 1-4 in St. Louis.
