Carl Bender, the Konneker Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Physics in Arts & Sciences, has received a Humboldt Research Award. The award is given to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.

Two faculty members named National Academy of Inventors fellows
Jeffrey I. Wright president-elect of orthopedic surgery board
Rick W. Wright, MD, the Jerome J. Gilden Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named president-elect of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Wright will serve a one-year term as president-elect and become president of the organization in October.
Lester named journal editor, society president
Rebecca Lester, associate professor of sociocultural anthropology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed the next editor-in-chief of the interdisciplinary journal Culture, Medicine, and Psychiatry. She also was recently elected president of the Society for Psychological Anthropology.
