Kim Webb, director of the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named president of the American College Health Association, which represents about 1,100 institutions and the collective health and wellness needs of 10 million college students. 

Amanda F. Cashen, MD, associate professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named executive chair of the university’s Institutional Review Board, the multidisciplinary group that reviews and approves protocols for research studies that involve human subjects.

Tim Wencewicz, assistant professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences, has been recognized with a 2019 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. He will use the funding for his research to help develop new antibiotics, to combat antibiotic resistance and to improve the university’s organic chemistry curriculum.

Mitchell G. Scott, professor of pathology and immunology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.

Julie Margenthaler, MD, professor of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named president-elect of The American Society of Breast Surgeons. She will serve in the role until 2020, when she becomes president of the organization.

Roman Garnett, at the McKelvey School of Engineering, will build new algorithms for a method known as active machine learning that will accelerate extracting knowledge from big data with a five-year, $497,693 CAREER award from the National Science Foundation.

Three Washington University in St. Louis students have received the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship, which honors students who conduct research in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.

Andrew Tuch, professor of law, will present “Reassessing Self-Dealing” at the 2019 Stanford/Yale/Harvard Junior Faculty Forum June 5 and 6 at Yale Law School.

Caitlyn Collins, assistant professor of sociology in Arts & Sciences, is one of 10 junior faculty nationwide selected as a 2019 Nancy Weiss Malkiel Scholar by The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.

Michael Fogarty, who graduated in May with a dual degree in political science and in economics, both in Arts & Sciences, has received the university’s Grossman-Alexander Prize.
