Ranen Miao, a rising sophomore studying political science and sociology in Arts & Sciences, has been named a Point Foundation national scholar. The honor supports outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer student leaders. 

Kimberly Norwood, the Henry H. Oberschelp Professor of Law, is being honored by Missouri Lawyers Media for her work on diversity and inclusion.

The National Endowment for Financial Education honored Yingying Zeng, research associate at the Center for Social Development and the Social Policy Institute, with an award for her paper on Workplace financial counseling.

Jonathan Myers, associate professor of biology in Arts & Sciences, and Solny Adalsteinsson, staff scientist at Tyson Research Center, participated in a Future of Fire Consortium that produced both a scholarly review and a blog item in the Journal of Ecology.

Three members of the Washington University in St. Louis community have been selected by Focus St. Louis for the 45th Leadership St. Louis class. They are Betsy Abente, Rebecca Brown and Marilyn Wilson.

The Cordell Institute for Policy in Medicine & Law has received a $100,000 grant from Microsoft Corp. to hire a fellow to work on the institute’s Cloud Civil Liberties Project.

Gary Patti is among the 31 finalists for the Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists, selected from 305 nominations across the United States, the organization announced June 17. He is the first honoree from Washington University in St. Louis in the award’s seven-year history.

Mayssa H. Mokalled, assistant professor of developmental biology at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the 2020 H.W. Mossman Award in Developmental Biology from the American Association for Anatomy.

Lisa Bulawsky, professor of art, has been named chair of the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art program in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, effective July 1.
