Two students at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have been named top young entrepreneurs by Forbes magazine.

Katie Plax, MD, professor of pediatrics and director of the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the Job Lewis Smith Award for outstanding community service from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

School of Medicine physicians Jeannie Kelly, Steve Liao, Hayley Friedman, Barbara Cohlan, Cynthia Rogers and Michael Wenzinger, together with nurses and social workers at Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospitals, received the Dr. Corinne Walentik Provider/Practitioner Champion Award from Generate Health.

Ronald Levin, the William R. Orthwein Distinguished Professor of Law at Washington University, has received the American Bar Association Administrative Law Section’s 2019 “Award for Best Scholarship” in the field published in 2018.

Sean Joe, the Benjamin E. Youngdahl Professor of Social Development at the Brown School, was part of a working group that this week released the report “Ring the Alarm: The Crisis of Black Youth Suicide in America.”

Jhan Salazar, a graduate student in biology in Arts & Sciences, was recognized by the Colombian organization Color de Colombia as the “Afro-Colombian of the Year” in the youth category in a nationally televised ceremony in Colombia on Dec. 2.

Del Schwinke, a longtime Washington University adjunct instructor in University College, received the Advertising Club of Greater St. Louis’ Lifetime Achievement Award at a Dec. 5 event. 

Alecia Vogel-Hammen, MD, PhD, an instructor in child psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry’s 2019 Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders.

Damena Agonafer, assistant professor at the McKelvey School of Engineering, received a five-year $500,000 CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for research into different modes of heat transfer during evaporation.

A recent paper from Neil Richards, the Koch Distinguished Professor in Law at the Washington University School of Law, has been named one of five winners of the Future of Privacy Forum’s 10th Annual Privacy Papers for Policymakers Award.
