Students wanting to make a significant environmental impact on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis are encouraged to sign up for the third annual Olin Sustainability Case Competition. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 9.

Medical students gave Distinguished Service Teaching Awards to more than 40 faculty and 10 resident physicians Dec. 2 in appreciation of exemplary service in medical student education.

John Stezaker at Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum Jan. 27 to April 23

In a culture defined by an indiscriminate onslaught of images, John Stezaker’s work conveys both a fascination with their lure and a critique of their seductive power. Using classic movie stills, vintage postcards, book illustrations and other found materials, the contemporary British artist brings new meanings to old pictures, adjusting, inverting and slicing them together to create collages that are at once captivating and unsettling, eerie and elegant, nostalgic and absurd. This spring, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will provide the only U.S. venue for John Stezaker, the artist’s first major solo museum exhibition.

Colditz receives cancer society’s top honor

Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, a disease prevention expert at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis has received the Medal of Honor for cancer control research from the American Cancer Society.

Gingerbread Brookings

A gingerbread version of WUSTL’s iconic Brookings Hall on display Nov. 30 in the Bear’s Den on the South 40. WUSTL Dining Services made the Gingerbread Brookings in celebration of the holiday season with more than 30 lbs. of gingerbread dough, 25 lbs. of icing and nearly 10 lbs. of candy.

Gallery of campus renewal ideas on display

Employees at Washington University Medical Center are invited to view a gallery of presentation boards, models and other materials created by three design teams for the campus renewal process. The gallery is now open on the second floor of the BJC Institute of Health at Washington University School of Medicine. Employees may visit the gallery from 7-9 a.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays or 2-4 p.m. Thursdays through Dec. 22.

December Anesthesiology features Washington University department

For the first time, Anesthesiology, the premier journal in the field of anesthesiology, focuses entirely on the physicians, scientists and research conducted in a single, U.S. institution. The December issue of the journal features the work of the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Morrow-Howell named director of the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging

Nancy Morrow-Howell, PhD, the Ralph and Muriel Pumphrey Professor of Social Work at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, is the new director of the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging effective Jan. 1, announced Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. Morrow-Howell succeeds John C. Morris, MD, the Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Distinguished Professor of Neurology and director of the Alzheimer Disease Research Center, the Memory and Aging Project and the Memory Diagnostic Center at WUSTL. 

WUSTL hosts national Greek life representatives

WUSTL students and administrators recently hosted representatives from 20 national fraternity/sorority offices, as well as student leaders from 13 Greek chapters across the country. The give-and-take was an opportunity to talk about issues in Greek life and ensure that the WUSTL Greek community continues to prosper.
