Novelist, translator and poet Jaimy Gordon will read from her work at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, for The Writing Program Reading Series at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition, Gordon will give a talk on the craft of fiction at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.

The Holocaust in the Congo will be explored in this year’s Holocaust Memorial Lecture
Author Adam Hochschild will deliver the annual Holocaust Memorial lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. The lecture, entitled “The Holocaust in the Congo – Then and Today,” is free and open to the public. It will be held in Graham Chapel, located just north of Mallinckrodt Center (6445 Forsyth Blvd.) on the Washington University campus.Hochschild’s talk will be based on his acclaimed book, King Leopold’s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror and Heroism in Colonial Africa (1998).
Wunderkind scientist Stephen Wolfram will present A New Kind of Science for Assembly Series
Scientist and entrepreneur Stephen Wolfram will give a presentation based on his book, A New Kind of Science, at 4 p.m. Nov. 6 in Graham Chapel for Washington University’s Assembly Series. The event is free and open to the public. Graham Chapel is located just north of Mallinckrodt Center (6445 Forsyth).
Biomedical Engineering DepartmentÂs Uncas A. Whitaker Hall is dedicated
The dedication of Uncas A. Whitaker Hall for Biomedical Engineering on Oct. 20, 2003, was a major step forward in a plan begun more than a decade ago to launch a nationally prominent department in this rapidly growing field. It also crystallizes the ongoing collaboration of researchers in the Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Medicine begun more than 40 years ago.
