His slate of responsibilities has been jammed; “I’ve lived life so that now I have the opportunity to give something back,” he says.

Her passions include community activism & service; she founded St. Louis Project Democracy and was involved in numerous other projects.

The School of Law celebrated the outstanding achievements of six individuals at its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner April 22 at The Ritz-Carlton. Distinguished Law Alumni Award recipients were Steven N. Rappaport, Barry S. Schermer, John C. Shapleigh and Raymond P. Wexler. Alan B. Bornstein and Linda M. Martinez received Distinguished Young Law Alumni Awards.

A single mother, she began seriously taking courses through University College in 1998, the same year her daughter started kindergarten.

“I left St. Louis still thinking I would use law in a different career and came back from South Africa wanting to practice law,” she says.

“Michael is one the best medical students we’ve worked with,” says Thomas H.H. Tung, M.D., assistant professor of surgery.

The School of Medicine event will be at Hudlin Park, adjacent to the tennis courts in front of Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

More than a dozen distinguished individuals will speak at Commencement-related events for graduates and their friends and families.
