John A. Wright, PhD, author and historian, will speak at the 20th annual Homer G. Phillips Public Health Lecture Series at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis on Oct. 23. The title of his talk is “Homer G. Phillips and the Ville: Celebrating the Legacy.”

All members of the Washington University in St. Louis community are invited to take part in a forum discussion at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, that will focus on the university’s ongoing diversity and inclusion efforts. A key topic will be the report and recommendations from the Steering Committee for Diversity & Inclusion. The event will be held at the Clark-Fox Forum in Hillman Hall.

Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is adopting a new system to help maximize and streamline its clinical trials management and data collection. Elements of the new system will go live later this month, with the entire system expected to be online in January.

The St. Louis Children’s Hospital Child Development Center parking lot is not a thoroughfare for garage access. Using it as such compromises the safety of children and parents, so employees are asked not to drive through the lot to access the garages. Employees traveling north on Newstead can proceed north a half block to Duncan to access both garages.

As part of the overall plan to improve traffic flow in and around the Medical Campus, the access road on the south side of the campus garages along Duncan Avenue only will allow for right turns into and out of both Taylor and Newstead avenues beginning Monday, Sept. 21.

The university will pause Friday, Sept. 11, to remember the lives lost in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The university and U.S. flags will be lowered to half-staff, and the chimes in Graham Chapel will toll at 9:28 a.m., the time the World Trade Center’s North Tower collapsed.

Washington University in St. Louis will test its emergency communication system, WUSTLAlerts, at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. The test will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time.

Nominations are due Oct. 5 for the 2015 Washington University School of Medicine Samuel R. Goldstein Leadership Awards in Medical Student Education.

​Washington University hosts two special events next week, both highlighting entrepreneurship and innovation on campus, and in the community.

The Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Washington University in St. Louis has announced a unique partnership Boeing’s Phantom Works Ventures, an entrepreneurial arm of the corporation. Students will be given an opportunity to commercialize Boeing patents in non-aerospace applications – with total prizes of $5,000.
