Free rowing classes offered this month
The Washington University Crew Club will host free “learn to row” classes on May 14 and 21, both Saturdays, at Creve Coeur Lake.
‘Eyes on the Prize’ rebroadcast this weekend
The “Eyes on the Prize” series on the civil rights movement will be rebroadcast by the Nine Network this weekend. A follow-up documentary features previously unaired materials from University Libraries’ Henry Hampton Collection and airs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6.
Fair Saint Louis to use some campus parking again
Fair Saint Louis will held in Forest Park July 2-4 for the third year in a row. In the spirit of community partnership, and given the proximity of the park to campus, Washington University has once again agreed to sponsor Fair Saint Louis by providing access to several campus parking areas during the fair, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 1.
Fall safety demonstration May 3 on Medical Campus
Those on the Medical Campus, take note: At about 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, the Campus Renewal Project safety team will demonstrate the importance of construction workers wearing fall-protection gear and having a rescue plan.
Volunteers sought for Oct. 9 presidential debate
Applications are now being accepted for student, faculty and staff volunteers to help support the presidential debate Sunday, Oct. 9, at Washington University in St. Louis. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. June 17.
‘Segregation by Design’ seminar to be offered in fall
It has been 48 years since the passage of the Fair Housing Act, yet most American cities — St. Louis included — remain deeply segregated. Next fall, faculty from Washington University in St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State University will present “Segregation by Design,” an interdisciplinary seminar that examines the role of planning and design in fostering and maintaining segregation.
Workplace violence/active shooter training next week
Washington University’s Emergency Management Office will offer a free one-hour class at noon Wednesday, May 4, to give employees and students an understanding of what to do in the case of a person committing violence or an active shooter at the university.
Regional emergency response exercise planned for April 26
The St. Louis Area Regional Response System (STARRS) will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise on Tuesday, April 26 in various locations throughout the St. Louis region, including Washington University’s South Campus, located at 6501 Clayton Road.
Skinker/Delmar intersection closure to begin Monday
As work on the Loop Trolley project continues, drivers near the North Campus and Danforth Campus, take note: The intersection of Skinker and Delmar boulevards will be closed beginning Monday, April 25, for 12 days. Crews will be installing tracks, and detours will be necessary.
Take part in Delmar Loop Social Impact Hackathon
Join in the Delmar Loop Social Impact Hackathon this weekend, April 22-24. The Skandalaris Center and the Delmar Loop Innovation Neighborhood are holding the contest, during which teams will brainstorm ways to create a place that attracts geniuses and speeds economic growth. Prizes will be given for top ideas.
