Memorial service planned for Maggie Ryan
A memorial service to remember Maggie Ryan will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in Graham Chapel. Ryan, 22, died in a car accident May 22, just two days after earning her degrees from Arts & Sciences.
Medical school to celebrate Epigenome Day Nov. 21
Epigenome Day will be held Nov. 21 on the Medical Campus, with a full slate of seminars and workshops highlighting epigenomics resources. The free, public event includes a keynote address by Bing Ren of University of California, San Diego.
University Police remind campus about personal safety
The Washington University Police Department will again initiate its “Don’t be in the Dark” safety program Monday through Thursday evenings, Nov. 7-10, talking in neighborhoods with students about safety after dark.
Take part in Green Office Program
The Office of Sustainability is encouraging offices around campus to take part in the Green Office Program, making improvements such as reducing energy use and office waste. An awards event is planned in January.

Africa Week 2016: Roots Decoded begins Oct. 30
Urban Cusp founder and former Washington Post columnist Rahiel Tesfamariam will kick off Africa Week at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Hillman Hall. Sponsored by the African Students Association, Africa Week explores African education, activism, cuisine and commerce.

The university will celebrate the grand opening of the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a day of activities and giveaways starting at 9 a.m.

Dains memorial scheduled Oct. 30
A memorial to celebrate the life of Stephanie Brooks Dains will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Graham Chapel. Dains, a 1969 alumna and major supporter of the university, died in New York in June.
Danforth Staff Council to hold town hall, seeks applicants
The Danforth Staff Council will hold a town hall meeting for staff Monday, Oct. 17. Also, the council is accepting applications for new members. Those interested should apply by Oct. 31.
