The Office of Sustainability is encouraging offices around campus to take part in the Green Office Program, making improvements such as reducing energy use and office waste. An awards event is planned in January.

University College — the professional and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences — will hold a preview night at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge.

Urban Cusp founder and former Washington Post columnist Rahiel Tesfamariam will kick off Africa Week at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Hillman Hall. Sponsored by the African Students Association, Africa Week explores African education, activism, cuisine and commerce.

The university will celebrate the grand opening of the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a day of activities and giveaways starting at 9 a.m.

The Commencement Office seeks staff volunteers for the recognition ceremony for December 2016 degree candidates. The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Graham Chapel. Sign up to help by Friday, Nov. 4.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Stephanie Brooks Dains will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Graham Chapel. Dains, a 1969 alumna and major supporter of the university, died in New York in June.

The Danforth Staff Council will hold a town hall meeting for staff Monday, Oct. 17. Also, the council is accepting applications for new members. Those interested should apply by Oct. 31.

The Department of Anthropology in Arts & Sciences is holding a photography contest for all undergraduates. The deadline to submit photos related to anthropology studies is Nov. 4.

The Gephardt Institute reminds the campus community that 5 p.m. today (Oct. 12) is the deadline to register or update voter information in Missouri for the Nov. 8 election.

The university is holding its first Cyber Security Awareness Symposium for faculty, staff and students to learn more about information security on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
