A memorial service for Gregory Paul Smith Jr., who was entering his junior year at Washington University in St. Louis, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Smith died July 27, 2017, while studying abroad in London. He was 20.
Faculty, staff invited to take part in Dance Marathon this weekend
Faculty and staff are invited to join with hundreds of students at their 12-hour Dance Marathon this weekend, a fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in St. Louis. Employees can join Chancellor Mark Wrighton and Risa Zwerling Wrighton starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Athletic Complex.
Olin Library’s north entrance to open
As the construction project continues, the north entrance of Olin Library, across from Louderman Hall, is expected to open at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1. Once it opens, the south entrance will close until the spring.
Volleyball hosts Green Dot game Tuesday
The volleyball team will host a Green Dot match at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, against Greenville University. The university’s Green Dot program encourages bystanders to intervene and help prevent sexual assault and violence.

Thurtene moves near Francis Field
Thurtene Carnival, the nation’s oldest and largest student-run carnival, will move from its longtime home at the east end of the Danforth Campus at Washington University in St. Louis to the parking lots surrounding historic Francis Field. The carnival, scheduled for April 13-15, will boast the same array of rides, games, student performances and food booths.
Health administrator to deliver Phillips lecture
Georges C. Benjamin, MD, a highly regarded health administrator and former secretary of health for Maryland, will deliver the 22nd annual Homer G. Phillips Health Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the School of Medicine. Register to attend by Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Olin Fellowship Conference to examine health disparities among women
The 43rd annual Olin Fellowship Conference, “At the Intersection of Research and Reform: Reducing Health Disparities Among Women,” will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in Hillman Hall’s Clark-Fox Forum.
