Special sessions to address aftermath of Charlottesville

A series of Perspectives sessions are being held on the Danforth, Medical and West campuses in September for faculty and staff to discuss the events in Charlottesville, Va., and what they mean for the university community. The next one is noon Tuesday, Sept. 5, on the Medical Campus.

Reminder: SafeTrek safety app available for free to university community

Members of the Washington University in St. Louis community are encouraged to download the free personal safety app SafeTrek. The university is providing the service, essentially a mobile “blue light,” for free to students, faculty, staff and basic service contractor employees.

Solar eclipse watch party planned on campus

University College is hosting a solar eclipse watch party and ice cream social next week. Gather with others in the university community starting at noon Monday, Aug. 21, on Mudd Field. Those who RSVP will receive viewing glasses.

Commuter fair, bike tuneups Thursday

A commuter resource fair, complete with bike tuneups, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, on the north side of the Danforth University Center.

Join in reading, discussion of ‘Frankenstein’

Faculty and staff are invited to take part in this year’s Common Reading Program. First-year students are reading “Frankenstein,” by Mary Shelley. Faculty and staff may register to download the book and take part in staff discussions, starting in mid-August.

Stress Less Challenge begins next week

Faculty and staff are encouraged to take part in the Stress Less Challenge during August, a program led by the Office of Human Resources. Take five minutes each day for a relaxing activity.

Sumers Recreation Center closed next week

The Sumers Recreation Center will be closed Monday, July 31, through Friday, Aug. 4, for floor refinishing, cleaning and maintenance. The center will reopen Saturday, Aug. 5.

KL2 career development applications due Sept. 15

KL2 Career Development Awards offer multidisciplinary training in research for future clinical investigators. Applications for a position involving research that addresses the needs of children are being accepted through Sept. 15.
