Take part in used shoe drive
Donate gently used shoes at collection spots on the Medical Campus by May 31. The Office of Sustainability and the School of Medicine Operations and Facilities Management Department is coordinating the effort with Shoeman Water Projects. The nonprofit helps raise funds to provide clean water in developing countries.
Libraries’ Special Collections to have limited access this summer
Due to collection moves, there will be limited access to some collections in University Libraries’ Julian Edison Department of Special Collections during summer 2018, starting May 22.
University College seeks mentors for students
University College is launching a mentorship program to support students working to earn degrees and certificates. The new Mentor Collective is an online program that matches students with University College alumni and others in the university community to help them achieve academic and personal goals.
PAD announces free tickets for students
The Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis announced a new student ticket policy. As of the fall 2018 semester, admission to PAD productions will be free to all full-time Washington University students, as well as University College students who have been admitted into a degree or certificate program.
Flags lowered in honor of former first lady Barbara Bush
The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff in honor of Barbara Bush, wife of former President George H.W. Bush, until sunset Saturday, April 21. Bush died April 17 at age 92.
Tennis teams to host Special Olympics clinic May 5
The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s tennis teams will host the 14th Annual Special Olympics Tennis Clinic from 10 a.m.-noon May 5 at the Tao Tennis Center on the Danforth Campus. The registration deadline is May 1.
Feedback sought on Chouteau Greenway design
The university community is encouraged to provide feedback on the four concepts being considered for the Chouteau Greenway, which will connect neighborhoods and institutions from Forest Park to the Arch. The concepts are available online and in public displays, including at Olin Library and St. Louis College of Pharmacy on the Medical Campus. Complete the survey before April 22.
Pancreas SPORE program applications due May 15
Applications for the Pancreas SPORE Developmental Research Award, Disparities Developmental Research Award and Career Enhancement Awards are being accepted through May 15. The award supports innovative translational pancreas research and provides up to $75,000 for a year.
Athletics launches online store
The Department of Athletics has launched an online store, ShopWashUBears.com, where people can buy university-branded sweats, hats and other gear.
University launches annual faculty and staff campaign
Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton encourages others to support students through Our Washington, the faculty and staff component of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University.
