Flags lowered to half-staff in memory of Pittsburgh synagogue victims
The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff until sunset Wednesday, Oct. 31, as a mark of respect for those killed in the shooting Oct. 27 at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Effort underway to help students get to polls
The Washington University School of Law’s Public Service Advisory Board wants to help students get to the polls on Election Day Nov. 6. The board encourages students to complete a survey to indicate if they either need a ride to their polling place or are willing to drive other voters.
New caregiver leave policy for staff takes effect Jan. 1
Washington University in St. Louis will offer its staff members paid parental and caregiver leave effective Jan. 1, announced Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration and chief administrative officer.
Nominations sought for Harris Award
Nominations are being accepted for the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award, which honors a married couple for extraordinary contributions to the culture and welfare of the metropolitan St. Louis area. The deadline is Oct. 31.
Take part in university conversation on Clayton incident
Washington University faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in a universitywide conversation Thursday, Oct. 11, about the incident in July when some incoming first-year students were stopped by Clayton police officers after leaving a restaurant.

Danforth Staff Council town hall planned Oct. 16
The Danforth Staff Council will hold its fall 2018 town hall meeting from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Mallinckrodt Center’s Edison Theatre. Chancellor-designate Andrew D. Martin is among the speakers.
Families can take part in Safe Trick or Treat Oct. 20
St. Louis community members are invited to bring their children to Safe Trick-or-Treat from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, on the South 40 area of the Danforth Campus. Students lead families through the residence halls for trick-or-treating along with Halloween crafts and games.
Hamsini holds open house Sept. 28
Hamsini, the newest living-learning community at Washington University in St. Louis, is holding an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28. Hamsini offers housing for students who are interested in exploring the history and culture of the African diaspora.
