Danforth Staff Council town hall planned Oct. 16

The Danforth Staff Council will hold its fall 2018 town hall meeting from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Mallinckrodt Center’s Edison Theatre. Chancellor-designate Andrew D. Martin is among the speakers.

Families can take part in Safe Trick or Treat Oct. 20​

St. Louis community members are invited to bring their children to Safe Trick-or-Treat from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, on the South 40 area of the Danforth Campus. Students lead families through the residence halls for trick-or-treating along with Halloween crafts and games.

Hamsini holds open house Sept. 28

Hamsini, the newest living-learning community at Washington University in St. Louis, is holding an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28. Hamsini offers housing for students who are interested in exploring the history and culture of the African diaspora.

Staff kickball tournament planned Oct. 16

The Danforth Staff Council invites university staff members to take part in an inaugural kickball tournament Oct. 16 on Mudd Field, during students’ fall break, following the council’s fall town hall meeting. Sign up by Oct. 5.

The Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has a new clinical practice location in O’Fallon, Mo. The office will hold an open house Oct. 4.

Basketball teams offer Junior Bears camps

The Washington University men’s and women’s basketball teams are offering Junior Bears camps to children in kindergarten through eighth grade who enjoy basketball. The girls’ camp begins Sunday, Sept. 16, and the boys’ first session is Sunday, Sept. 30.

Medical school starts mentoring program for LGBTQ+ students

The Office of Diversity Programs at the School of Medicine, in partnership with LGBTQ Med and OUTmed, is sponsoring a new program for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+) identified medical students called OUTmentor.

Memorial for Zishan (Simoner) Zhao scheduled for Sept. 22

A memorial service in honor of Zishan (Simoner) Zhao will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 in Brown Hall Lounge. A reception will follow at 12:15 p.m. in Brown Hall. Zhao, a rising junior in Arts & Sciences, died June 2 in North Carolina.

Sling Health team leader applications due Sept. 7

Sling Health, the student-run biotechnology accelerator, will hold Problem Day on Sept. 28 on the Medical Campus. The deadline to apply to become a team leader is Friday, Sept. 7, and a team member, Sept. 28.

Washington University community invited to join Home Plate

Members of the Washington University in St. Louis community are invited to host Washington University students in their homes for casual dinner and conversation through the Home Plate program. Founded in 2002 by Risa Zwerling Wrighton, Home Plate helps new students feel at home in St. Louis and offers faculty, staff and alumni an opportunity to engage with talented students from across the globe.
