The university Society of Professors Emeriti will hold its regular monthly meeting via Zoom at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8. Piroska Kopar, MD, of the Washington University School of Medicine, will discuss medical ethics in surgery.

The Divided City: An Urban Humanities Initiative announces a new funding opportunity. Senior lecturers, professors of the practice, tenure-track and tenured faculty can apply for grants of up to $20,000 in support of collaborative research, field institutes and community engagement on urban segregation, broadly conceived. The deadline is Feb. 17.

Washington University’s McDonnell International Scholars Academy and Social Policy Institute seek proposals from WashU researchers and their international partners to identify and address the challenges of COVID-19 through artificial intelligence, technology and big data. Proposals are due Feb. 26.

A new program has launched at Washington University to support principal investigators and their postdoctoral researchers. The Postdoc Peer Mentorship Program is accepting applications for those who wish to be mentors and for those who would like a mentor on both the Danforth and Medical campuses. The deadline is Feb. 1. 

All members of the Washington University in St. Louis community are invited to nominate honorary degree candidates for the May 2022 Commencement. The Honorary Degree Task Force of the Board of Trustees is accepting nominations until Feb. 1.

The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff until sunset Wednesday, Jan. 13, in honor of U.S. Capitol Police officers Brian D. Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, who died last week.

The Teaching Center and the Learning Center at Washington University in St. Louis have joined together as one academic unit known as the Center for Teaching and Learning.
