Washington University is moving forward with in-person Commencement ceremonies on the Danforth Campus in May for members of the classes of 2020 and 2021 and a limited number of guests.

The Green Cup is an annual competition to reduce energy use, and typically is focused on Washington University’s residential colleges. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition is virtual and is open to faculty, staff and students. It will run March 1-31.

The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff until sunset Friday, Feb. 26, in memory of the more than 500,000 Americans who have died of COVID-19 during the pandemic.

Washington University will test its emergency communication system at 10 a.m. March 4. The test will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time.

Applications are now being accepted for the Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Leukemia Career Enhancement Program and the Developmental Research Program, under principal investigator Daniel Link, MD, at the School of Medicine. Those interested should apply by April 30.

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum’s Teaching Gallery is now accepting exhibition proposals for fall 2021. Faculty are invited to attend a virtual information session from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19.

The university’s Bernard Becker Medical Library has compiled a COVID-19 resource guide, which includes information on the COVID-19 vaccine and its development as well as a list of vaccine pre-registration sites for community members in the St. Louis region.

Chancellor Andrew D. Martin will give his first annual State of the University address at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16. He will provide an update on the university’s progress during the past year and offer opportunities for further conversation with administrative leaders.

Undergraduate and graduate students who love collecting books can submit entries for this year’s Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition. The deadline is March 5, and winners can receive up to $1,000.

WashU ExpressCare is open to the public, 18 and older, for same-day care for minor health concerns seven days a week, including holidays. The clinic offers appointments with a WashU emergency medicine physician virtually from home, or when necessary, in-person.
