John C. Morris, MD, the Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Distinguished Professor of Neurology and director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, will deliver the 2012 Friedman lecture at 3 p.m. April 30, in Graham Chapel. His lecture is titled “The Aging Mind: Realities and Myths.”

Darrell Kirch, MD, president and chief executive of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), will speak at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25 in Connor Auditorium in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center.

The Farmers Market at the Washington University Medical Center has moved back outside for the summer season. The market is open every Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Plaza outside of the School of Medicine bookstore.  

TEDMED 2012, featuring inspiring presentations from innovative thinkers and accomplished leaders, will be simulcast April 10-13 in Seminar Room B of the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus of Washington University in St. Louis. WUSTL students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend. There is no cost, and seating is available on a first-come basis.

Artwork created by Washington University employees’ children will be on display from April 12-25 in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center Atrium. The creations were part of a contest offered to children in kindergarten through high school to raise awareness among university families of hte importance of sustainable living.

University Libraries and the Alumni Association are hosting a “WUSTL Tweets, Tweetup” at 3 p.m. Friday, April 27, in Olin Library’s Ginkgo Reading Room (Level 1). A tweetup is an in-person networking event for Twitter users to meet their friends/followers in real life.

WUSTL is once again partnering with Operation Food Search to coordinate the 2nd annual campus-wide food drive, PB&Joy. Last year, the university collected nearly 3 tons of food. The campaign runs from Thursday, April 5, through Monday, April 16, and all faculty, staff and students are urged to participate. Drop-off locations are located in 35 areas across the university’s four campuses.

Washington University Libraries have announced the launch of Open Scholarship (openscholarship.wustl.edu), a new institutional online repository providing access to the scholarly output of faculty, students and staff from WUSTL. Developed following the Faculty Senate’s passage of an Open Access Resolution in May of 2011, Open Scholarship is a further step in the university’s commitment to make scholarship and creative works freely and easily available to the world community.

Older adults who still drive will have an opportunity to find out how well they are fitting in their vehicles at a CarFit screening offered by occupational therapy students at Washington University School of Medicine at a CarFit event from 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 31.

Mary Boatwright, PhD, professor of ancient history in the Department of Classical Studies at Duke University, will give the annual John and Penelope Biggs Lecture in the Classics for the Assembly Series at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Steinberg Hall Auditorium. Her talk, “Agrippa’s Inscription on Hadrian’s Pantheon,” will focus on Rome’s most widely known yet enigmatic building
