WUSTL employees interested in learning about evening and part-time graduate programs are encouraged to attend a lunch-and-learn session at noon on Dec. 6 in the Danforth University Center.

Over the course of 30-plus years and more than 20 documentaries, Ken Burns’ films have illuminated the country’s past and brought history to life through techniques such as first person narration. For these lasting contributions, Burns will receive WUSTL’s International Humanities Medal. The event on Friday, Nov. 16, includes a preview and commentary of his upcoming films.

Nov. 12-16 is Geography Awareness Week at WUSTL. The Geographic Information Systems office at WUSTL is sponsoring a number of sessions highlighting resources available through the university. Attendees can learn how to organize, analyze and present spatial information.

A student-organized meeting to discuss possible relief efforts for those affected by Superstorm Sandy will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 in room 233 of the Danforth University Center. All WUSTL students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend, contribute ideas, and get involved.

To evaluate campus food services, Washington University Dining Services is asking the university community to fill out a short survey. Two survey participants will be randomly selected for “Dinner for 2” at Ibby’s.

The medical school’s Student Arts Commission is hosting a “Coffee House Concert” from 5:15-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the second floor atrium of the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center. The concert showcases students’ musical and performance talents.

With the change yesterday to standard time, darkness will come earlier in the evening. The Washington University Police Department offers several safety reminders as part of the “Don’t be in the Dark” campaign.

At the annual Founders Day gala Saturday, Nov. 3, six outstanding alumni and two exceptional supporters will be honored for their dedication to Washington University.

Former U.S. Rep. Richard A. “Dick” Gephardt (D-Mo.) will discuss the 2012 presidential and congressional elections from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Danforth University Center (DUC), Room 234. Gephardt’s talk, “A Political Insider’s Guide to the 2012 Election,” is free and open to the public.
