The campaign video for Washington University’s “Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University” has won a Platinum Best of Show award at the Fall 2012 Aurora Awards competition in the fund raising category.

Washington University will test its emergency siren systems at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4 and again at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. The tests will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time. The March 5 drill at 1:30 p.m. will test the university’s emergency sirens as part of a Missouri statewide tornado drill. WUSTL’s warning sirens are located on Brookings Hall, Seigle Hall and Nemerov House.

In his first two books, Predictably Irrational and The Upside of Irrationality, Ariely shows how we often fail to act in our own best interests. With his third book, The (Honest) Truth about Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone – especially Ourselves, Ariely examines dishonesty in American culture and has some surprising findings to share at an Assembly Series presentation at 2 p.m. Wed., March 6 in Graham Chapel.

The 23rd annual Pow Wow, a festival of American Indian cultures, will be held Saturday, March 16, in the Field House on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis. This event, hosted by the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies at the Brown School, is free and open to the public. This year’s theme is “Honoring Our Cultures While Strengthening Our Communities.”

WUSTL’s Police and Parking Services departments, in partnership with Hartmann’s Towing, once again will sponsor a free Travelers’ Vehicle Inspection service to students, faculty and staff Saturday, March 2. The service is designed for those who anticipate traveling by car for Spring Break, March 10-16.

Washington University has moved up three spots on Peace Corps’ annual list of the top volunteer-producing mid-sized colleges and universities across the country, appearing on the list for the second consecutive year. With 23 alumni currently serving overseas as Peace Corps volunteers, WUSTL ranks No. 18.

Jewish families in the WUSTL community are encouraged to consider hosting a student for Passover. St. Louis Hillel seeks families to open their homes and share a warm, home-away-from-home Passover experience with students. To participate, hosts and students must register by March 20.

The deadline to make contributions to the next mailing is Wednesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Engineers Week 2013 is packed with a variety of events celebrating engineers all week long. The week, founded by the National Engineers Week Foundation, is designed to increase the visibility of the School of Engineering & Applied Science at the university, collaborate between various engineering groups and promote the interaction among students, alumni, faculty, staff and engineering professionals.
