The final application workshop for students interested in the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is slated for 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Danforth University Center, Room 234. Up to 200 WUSTL students will be selected to participate in CGI U, which will be held April 5-7 on campus.

The Community Service Office has announced the availability of more than $42,000 for Social Change Grant projects in summer 2013. WUSTL students are invited to build proposals for full or part-time summer work in the development and implementation of an innovative community project.

Curious who else on campus is tweeting? Join the University Libraries for its winter Tweet Up Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Olin Library’s Ginkgo Reading Room on level 1.

Faculty, staff and other members of the university community are invited to help St. Louis-area homeless while cheering on the men’s and women’s basketball teams as they square off against Brandeis University on Sunday, Jan. 20. The men’s game begins at noon and the women tip off at 2 p.m.

School of Medicine faculty, staff and students will perform their second annual winter concert at 6 p.m. Jan. 12 in the lobby of the Center for Advanced Medicine.

Registration began Dec. 17 for the third round of Tread the Med, a 100-day walking program and competition sponsored by the School of Medicine’s Wellness Committee. The program will begin Jan. 7.

Nominations now are being accepted for the annual Gerry & Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award, which honors members of the WUSTL community who exemplify a character of service and giving to the St. Louis region.

The book collection essay competition sponsored by Washington University Libraries is celebrating its 26th year this winter, offering four cash prizes to students who submit short essays about their personal book collections. The entry deadline for the 2013 contest has been set for Thursday, Feb. 28.
