Funds available for CGI U-related programming

In anticipation of the upcoming Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) at Washington University April 5-7, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service is offering funds for students, faculty, and staff interesting in creating programming and events related to the five CGI U focus areas. Beginning Feb. 1, WUSTL groups and individuals may apply for grants to cover program expenses such as rentals, marketing, supplies, refreshments and speaker honoraria.

Work, Families and Public Policy series begins Feb. 4

Faculty and graduate students with an interest in labor, households, health care, law and social welfare are invited to take part in a series of Monday brown-bag luncheon seminars to be held biweekly on the Danforth Campus at Washington University in St. Louis beginning Monday, Feb. 4. In its 17th year, the Work, Families and Public Policy series features one-hour presentations on research interests of faculty from local and national universities. Presentations will be from noon-1 p.m. in Seigle Hall, Room 348.

Internship & Job Career Fair to be held Jan. 30

The Danforth Campus will host local and national organizations on Wednesday, Jan. 30, for the Spring 2013 Internship & Job Career Fair. The fair will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. in the recreational gym of the Athletic Complex.

Career Center offers Etiquette Dinner for students

All students at Washington University in St. Louis are invited to the Etiquette Dinner Program, an opportunity to enjoy a three-course meal while learning the basics of fine dining. The dinner is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Danforth University Center Orchid Room. The program simulates a lunch/dinner interview and offers tips on fine dining etiquette, professional dress and business protocol.

CGI U application deadline Jan. 30

The final application deadline for students interested in participating in the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is Wednesday, Jan. 30. The annual CGI U meeting brings together students, youth organizations, topic experts and celebrities to discuss and develop innovative solutions to pressing global challenges.

Jan. 20 talk focuses on university’s history

“Why Is It Called Washington University?” a presentation and book signing with Candace O’Connor, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the AT&T Foundation Multipurpose Room at the Missouri History Museum, 5700 Lindell Blvd. O’Connor wrote Beginning a Great Work: Washington University in St. Louis, 1853-2003.
