On Friday, May 10, from 2-4 p.m. at the Edison Family Courtyard outside the DUC, WUSTL Dining Services is offering graduating seniors the opportunity to take one more delicious trip down memory lane with an event highlighting the food and favorite Dining Services staff members from their four years at Washington University. Faculty, staff and guests are invited to join the festivities. 

School of Medicine 2013 commencement speakers

John Exton, MD, PhD, the author of “Crucible of Science” — a book about the history of a unique laboratory at Washington University and of Carl and Gerty Cori, the biochemists who established it — will make opening remarks at the Carl and Gerty Cori Lecture on May 8.

Undergraduate student leaders and student groups who actively demonstrate exemplary leadership, service and commitment to the campus community were recognized during the Excellence in Leadership Awards ceremony, held April 28 in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall.

The third annual Lavender Recognition Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in College Hall in the South 40 House. Co-hosted by LGBT Student Involvement and Leadership and the Social Justice Center, the ceremony honors the achievements and contributions of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students and their allies. Sherry Salway Black, director of the Partnership for Tribal Governance, National Congress of American Indians, will be on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis at 12:15 p.m. Monday, May 13, in Brown Hall’s Brown Lounge (Room 218). Her talk “Securing Our Futures: Building Financial Capability for Life” is sponsored by the Brown School’s Center for Social Development and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The lecture is free but registration is required. Lunch will be provided.

Student Life, the independent newspaper of Washington University, won 23 awards in the Missouri College Media Association 2013 Newspaper contest, the Missouri Press Association recently announced.

An event to celebrate and reminisce about Jewish Hospital and the Jewish College of Nursing will be held 4 to 6 p.m. May 8 in the lobby of the Kingshighway Building, 216 S. Kingshighway Blvd.

The Community Service Office of the Gephardt Institute for Public Service recently announced the awarding of four social change grants for student projects pursuing innovative ideas and serving the common good in the spirit of social entrepreneurship.

The third annual PB&Joy food drive at Washington University in St. Louis yielded 8,372 pounds of food, compared to 4,686 pounds last year. The campaign also raised more than $3,800 in monetary contributions. This year’s total impact is enough to feed 3,042 people for a day.
