Mike Parker Pearson describes surprising findings at Stonehenge for Assembly Series’ Ferguson Science Lecture
Mike Parker Pearson’s research team spent six years on a comprehensive dig in and around Stonehenge, emerging with surprising discoveries and new theories on the origins and purpose of the prehistoric ruins. He will share some of these findings in his Assembly Series lecture, “Stonehenge: New Discoveries” at 4 p.m. Wed., March 27, in Steinberg Hall Auditorium on the Danforth Campus.

American Cancer Society looking for study participants
Those interested in participating in a national study to help the American Cancer Society understand how lifestyle, genetics and the environment affect cancer may enroll in the study April 30 or May 1 on the Washington University Medical Campus.
Charity run to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters this weekend
Take Steps for Kids is holding its annual charity run – with 5K and 1-mile options – this weekend. Take Steps for Kids is a WUSTL student-run organization. The family-friendly event on the Danforth Campus benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, a youth mentoring organization. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Brookings Quadrangle.
North Med Campus café to close; new one opens
A new food-service area on the north campus of Barnes-Jewish Hospital will open at 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. It will replace the Kingshighway Building’s north cafeteria, which will close permanently Tuesday evening, March 12.
Women in IT leadership program seeks applicants
“SPIN-IT: A Leadership Program for Women in IT” is accepting applications. The new program aims to encourage and support women, both staff members and students, pursuing careers in information technology. The deadline for staff members to apply is Friday, March 15; the deadline for student applications is March 22.
Olin Library Hosts Twitter 201 Series
Several librarians at Washington University are offering a series of free workshops this spring to help students, faculty, and staff tap the practical powers of Twitter. Each of the sessions is held in Olin Library’s Arc (Level A) at 3 p.m. on various Thursdays throughout the spring semester. Upcoming sessions will include the following topics: professional development and the job search; photography and images; and the use of hashtags.
Next ‘St. Louis Up Close’ to look at art and community building
Art and community building in St. Louis is the next social issue to be explored in “St. Louis Up Close,” a series sponsored by WUSTL’s Gephardt Institute for Public Service and the Community Service Office. “Art and Community Building: Cherokee Street and Beyond,” will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 in the Liberman Graduate Center, DUC 300.
WUSTL named to President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has announced that Washington University has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The designation honors the nation’s leading higher education institutions and their students, faculty and staff for their commitment to bettering their communities through service.
Spring forward and have a great break
