Washington University is offering a training session,”Reducing Cultural Distance in the New Workplace for Managers and Supervisors,” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 in the Human Resources Learning & Development Center at West Campus (Training Room B, Lower Level, 7509 Forsyth Blvd).

Semester Online is a first-of-its-kind program offering rigorous online courses for credit from prestigious colleges and universities, including Washington University in St. Louis. Students can learn more about this program from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Mallinckrodt Center lobby and from 6-8p.m. in the Bear’s Den on Aug. 24 and 25. The deadline for applying for Semester Online courses is Aug. 26.

Attention new Washington University students: if there’s something you need to complete your new space, look no further than campus. Sharing With A Purpose (SWAP) is holding a dorm supplies sale from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, on the South 40 basketball court.

The Midwest Society for Developmental Biology will hold its 51st annual meeting Sept. 26-28 at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. 

As part of Washington University’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for university employees and students, the university is offering workplace safety training sessions. The one-hour free training class for employees and students will be offered six times this fall semester, starting Monday, Aug. 19. 

A shuttle service that provides rides home to School of Medicine students and employees has been expanded to include the Central West End.

The School of Medicine’s Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences (DBBS) will celebrate its 40th anniversary Wednesday, Aug. 21. The division also will honor 10 faculty members who have served on more than 100 DDBS PhD thesis committees.

University of Michigan IT innovator John Gohsman will serve as Washington University’s first chief information officer. During his 30-year career, Gohsman found new ways to use information technology to help in the classroom and labratory.

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will institute new public hours beginning Aug. 21, 2013.

Tread the Med, the School of Medicine’s popular 100-day wellness program that encourages participants to walk 10,000 steps per day, is set to begin Thursday, Aug. 8, with a kickoff on the Medical Campus.
