Law school hosts International Law Weekend – Midwest Regional Conference

The Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute at Washington University’s School of Law will host the International Law Weekend – Midwest Regional conference Sept. 19-21. The theme for this year’s conference is “The Legal Challenges of Globalization: A View from the Heartland” and the panels presented at this conference will address a broad range of topics, emphasizing the impact of international law and globalization on the Midwest.

Freedman to lecture on continuing education for older adults

Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Encore.org, will deliver a lecture about the role higher education can play in supporting adults looking for a career change in their second half of life. The talk will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Mildred E. Bastian Theatre at St. Louis Community College Forest Park Campus. Sponsors are the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis; the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging at WUSTL’s Institute for Public Health; St. Louis Community College Continuing Education; and the OASIS Institute.

Campus holding four blood drives this year

The next of four university-wide blood drives this academic year will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6, at eight locations throughout Washington University in St. Louis. To donate blood, sign up online here.

Woman’s Club to welcome new university members

The Woman’s Club of Washington University and Risa Zwerling Wrighton will be holding a welcome luncheon for women newcomers to the university to meet current members and learn about the Club’s varied activities from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sept. 20 in Harbison House (6420 Forsyth Blvd).

LGBTQ group hosts casual mixer

OUTgrads, the universitywide group for LGBTQ graduate and professional students at Washington University, is hosting a mixer for LGBTQ graduate students, faculty and staff from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the second floor hearth area of the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center at the School of Medicine.

Women in IT leadership program seeks student applicants

“SPIN-IT: A Leadership Program for Women in IT” is accepting student applications through Tuesday, Sept. 3. The program aims to encourage and support female staff members and students who are interested in technology careers.

Emergency kits for offices available

There’s now a simple way to be sure your office is prepared in case of an emergency. Washington University in St. Louis Emergency Management officials announced that managers across campus can order standard emergency preparedness kits for their offices.
