Founders Day gala honors faculty, alumni Nov. 5
On the heels of the St. Louis Cardinals’ appearance in the World Series, one of baseball’s greatest fans will give the keynote address to the annual Founder’s Day celebration at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to the Pulitizer Prize-winning historian’s remarks, Founders Day 2011 will feature the presentation of the Distinguished Faculty Awards, the Distinguished Alumni Awards and the Robert S. Brookings Awards.
Health open enrollment Nov. 1-30
The annual health open enrollment period for the health/dental or dental-only plans, the health- and child-care flex spending plans, the Health Savings Account and the Retirement Medical Savings Account will be from Nov. 1-30. Enrollments and changes to these plans made during the open enrollment period and before the Nov. 30 deadline will be effective Jan. 1, 2012. During open enrollment, employees will be able to make changes and enroll through HRMS.

Safe Trick-or-Treat Oct. 29
Bring your kids to a Safe Trick-or-Treat at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in the South 40. WUSTL students will lead groups of children through the residence halls for an afternoon of trick-or-treating, games and refreshments. RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 26, at (314) 935-5010.
Apply now for Bear Cub grants
Washington University’s Bear Cub Fund is soliciting grant applications from WUSTL researchers who want to move inventions from their laboratories toward commercialization.The application deadline is Nov. 30.
Green living
Jean Ponzi, green resources manager at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s EarthWays Center, spoke Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the School of Medicine on “Sustainability 101” as part of Campus Sustainability Week activites on the Danforth and Medical campuses. Friday is the final day of activities on both campuses.
Undergraduate Research Symposium Oct. 22 features more than 150 projects
Summer projects of more than 150 students will be showcased during the Undergraduate Research Symposium Saturday, Oct. 22. Itai Sened, honored as “Mentor of the Year,” will deliver the keynote address at noon in Room 300 of the Lab Sciences Building.
WUSTL welcomes family members to campus
More than 2,000 family members from across the U.S. – and some from across the world – are expected to visit WUSTL students Oct. 21-23 for Parent & Family Weekend. The weekend features 80-plus activities to help family members learn more about the university experience and extended St. Louis community.
