The e-newsletter serves as a compilation of sustainability-related news, updates, events and jobs on-campus and in the region.

Retired staff members and their WUSTL service

Rita A. Stanley arrived at the School of Law in 1995. Since then, the scenery and her duties changed, but a constant was excellent co-workers. “People were the reason I loved it here,” Stanley says. Stanley, along with the other 102 staff members who retired from the university this past year, contributed a total of 2,023 years of service to the university — more than two millennia.

Record email takes a holiday

After the issue of Friday, Dec. 15, the Record daily email takes a break for the holidays. It will resume publication on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, followed by another weekly check-in on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The Record resumes regular daily emails Tuesday, Jan. 17, when classes begin for the spring semester.

Being neighborly

Faculty Fellows in the South 40 recently hosted holiday parties for their student neighbors. Faculty Fellows help integrate academic and residential life by living in the residential colleges with students for three-year stints.

Holobaugh nominations due

Nominations are due Jan. 19 for the fourth annual James M. Holobaugh Honors. Campus Life and the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Advisory Board will be hosting the Holobaugh Honors Ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall.

Holiday break ideal time for students to network

Career Center advisers are encouraging students to make the most of the upcoming holiday break. The extended time off is a great chance to network and put plans into action, they say. Students are urged to self-evaluate, review their interests and options and update their resumes with recent experiences and new skills. 

Portions of Millbrook Garage, Throop Drive to close for construction Dec. 22

A section of Throop Drive that runs in front of the Knight Center and Eliot Hall will close for construction beginning Thursday, Dec. 22. That stretch of Throop Drive will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 17. Also closing Dec. 22 are three levels Millbrook Garage’s southwest section that face the Knight Center and Eliot Hall. The three levels are slated for demolition and will not reopen. Both closings are in preparation for the construction of two new buildings for Olin Business School.

Neureuther book-collection competition seeks WUSTL student entrants

The annual Neureuther book collection essay contest sponsored by Washington University Libraries offers four cash prizes to students who submit short essays about their personal book collections. Any full-time WUSTL undergraduate and graduate student who has a passion for collecting books can compete in the Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition, which offers first- and second-place prizes of $1,000 and $500.

Trustees grant faculty promotions, tenure

At recent Board of Trustees meetings, the following faculty members were appointed with tenure or promoted with tenure: Randall J. Bateman, MD; Paul W. Hruz, MD, PhD; Catherine E. Lang, PhD; David Rudnick, MD, PhD; Sheila Stewart-Wigglesworth, PhD; Brad A. Racette, MD; and Chengjie Xiong, PhD.
