Washington University Libraries join HathiTrust partnership

Washington University Libraries has joined HathiTrust, a partnership of major academic and research libraries to preserve and provide access to the published record in a digital form. WUSTL now is partnering with more than 60 other major academic and research libraries from across the United States and the world in an effort to preserve and share the record of human knowledge.

WUSTL helps homeless St. Louisans

WUSTL’s Community Service Office, in partnership with St. Louis Emergency Winter Outreach, recently asked for winter wear donations to help the homeless. Thanks to the generosity of the WUSTL community, more than 200 coats and many other winter items have been distributed. The need will continue through the next few months.

Faculty develop teaching skills at i teach 2012

Andrew Knight, PhD, leads an i teach 2012 session on polling as a teaching tool during the i teach 2012 symposium — a biennial event at which faculty gather to talk about teaching experiences and to learn about new teaching methods and technology — at Seigle Hall Jan. 12. Approximately 150 faculty attended the event, which offered 16 classroom sessions on topics ranging from “Twitter for Teaching” to “Academic Integrity at WU: Myths and Realities.”

Danforth Campus welcomes recruiters

A diverse array of employers will be on campus Wednesday, Feb. 1, for the Spring Internship & Career Fair. All WUSTL students and alumni are invited to participate in the event. For those who are interested, mock interviews begin this Friday, Jan. 27, followed by “prepping” workshops Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 30 and 31.

Bystanders key to curbing college sexual assaults

Last spring, Washington University in St. Louis adopted “Green Dot,” a national program that capitalizes on the power of peer influence to prevent sexual violence, intimate partner violence and stalking violence on college campuses. Advocates nationally believe that bystanders hold the key to reducing assaults on campus.

Sustainability art contest open for WUSTL community children

Have budding young artists in the house? WUSTL campus sustainability committees want to show off their talents. The Children’s Sustainability Art Contest for Washington University community children attending kindergarten through high school will be held to raise awareness among university families of the importance of sustainable living. Entries must be received by Friday, March 9.

Spring Activities Fair Jan. 25

The Spring Activities Fair, open to all students, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Danforth University Center. Featuring approximately 150 student groups and university departments, the event is an opportunity for students to explore options for involvement and find experiences that will augment classroom learning.

2012-13 tuition, board and fees announced

Undergraduate tuition at Washington University in St. Louis will be $42,500 for the 2012-13 academic year — a $1,550 (3.8 percent) increase over the 2011-12 current academic tuition of $40,950. The required student activity fee will total $425, and the student health fee is estimated to be $780. Barbara A. Feiner, vice chancellor for finance, made the announcement.​
