A hilarious selection of free films celebrating baseball are being shown weekly on the Washington University in St. Louis campus. The “Summer Film Series 2012: Play Ball!” is open to the public.
WUSTL partners with Teamsters, St. Louis Green to find new use for old turf
Washington University in St. Louis, Teamsters Joint Council 13 and St. Louis Green partnered to help used artificial turf from WUSTL’s Francis Field find a new life on the floors of playgrounds, parks and more throughout the region. The efforts are keeping about 1 million pounds of waste from landfills.

Nixon appoints Smith to higher education commission
Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Mark W. Smith, JD, assistant
vice chancellor and director of the Career Center at Washington
University of St. Louis, to serve on the Midwestern Higher Education
Commission (MHEC). The commission advances higher education through interstate cooperation and resource sharing.
Athletics’ Smith receives Gloria White service award
From baking birthday cakes to greeting visitors with a smile, Pat Smith, chief administrative assistant for the WUSTL football team, makes it a priority to help all involved with the football program feel special. In recognition of her more than 10 years of dedication, Smith was recognized with the Gloria W. White Distinguished Service Award in a May 21 Staff Day ceremony in Edison Theatre.

Graduate School of Arts & Sciences recognizes outstanding teaching assistants
Each spring, the dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences recognizes outstanding teaching assistants who have been nominated by a department or a program. This year, 18 graduate students received the 2011-12 Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. A ceremony was held April 19 in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge.
New Campus Card Services office opening June 19 in Green Hall
The new WUSTL Campus Card Services office is opening Tuesday, June 19, in Green Hall, Suite 1158. Beginning this summer, Campus Card Services will produce all new and replacement university IDs for Danforth Campus students, faculty, staff, contractors and vendors.
Arts as Healing to hold exhibit June 29
The Siteman Cancer Center’s Arts as Healing Program will hold a gallery exhibit June 29 featuring original art created by cancer survivors. The Kaleidoscope of Hope event will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Des Lee Gallery, 1627 Washington Ave., First Floor, St. Louis, MO, 63103.
