The Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis has announced the appointment of Richelle Simmons Clark as co-director of the Center for Community Health & Partnerships.
Thirty-four ‘Green Offices’ earn certification
Two WUSTL offices earned gold-level certified in the first year of the Green Offices Program: the Institute for Public Health and Environmental Health & Safety. The program uses a points-based, self-assessment checklist so offices across the university can become sustainability champions. The plaques, made out of reclaimed lumber, embody the values of sustainability.

Relay For Life brings WUSTL community together in fight against cancer
Washington University in St. Louis will host its 11th annual Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, from 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, to 6 a.m. Sunday, April 14, on Francis Field. The 12-hour, overnight walk-a-thon is symbolic: cancer doesn’t sleep — and neither will participants working to combat the disease. The WUSTL event is entirely organized by the student-led Relay For Life Steering Committee.
Students go for the gold at CS40 Residential College Olympics
The Congress of the South 40 held its annual Residential College Olympics on the South 40 Swamp on Saturday, March 30. The day began with a 5K run and included other fun games including tug-of-war matches.
Clinton Global Initiative University leaves indelible mark on WUSTL
The sixth annual Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) was held on the Washington University in St. Louis Campus April 5-7, bringing more than 1,200 students from 75 countries and all 50 states to exchange ideas and solutions to effect real, soluble change to pressing global issues. The weekend was a whirlwind exchange of ideas and inspirations, but now is when the real work begins: Making change happen. For the participants – 200 of whom were WUSTL students – CGI U gave them a much-needed boost.
Free bike tune-ups today, tomorrow
Mechanics from Big Shark Bicycles will provide free bike tune-ups for students, faculty and staff today on the Medical Campus and tomorrow on the Danforth Campus. The tune-ups are part of Car-free Month at WUSTL.
The real gladiators: Kathleen Coleman discusses Christians in the Roman arena for Assembly Series
We all know the story of the Roman gladiator, right? Not the whole story, says Harvard classicist and advisor to the 2000 blockbuster film, “Gladiator.” Kathleen Coleman will explain this fascinating and complex culture for the annual Biggs Lecture in the Classics: “Christians in the Roman Arena,” April 9.
Car-free Month: April 2013
The offices of Sustainability and Parking and Transportation challenge the WUSTL community to try alternative means of commuting to campus during Car-free Month, April 1-24. The teams with highest number of car-free trips and greatest number of car-free miles will win awards. April 12 is the last day to register for the Car-free Challenge.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker to deliver WUSTL’s Commencement address
Named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine, Cory A. Booker, the mayor of Newark, N.J., has been selected to give the 2013 Commencement address at Washington University in St. Louis, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. The university’s 152nd Commencement ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, in Brookings Quadrangle.
