Graduate students recognize faculty mentors
The Graduate Student Senate recognized eight faculty with Outstanding Faculty Mentor Awards during its 14th annual awards ceremony, held April 10 in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Six other faculty received special recognition for excellence in mentoring.

Macias in China for announcement of new Schwarzman Scholarship Program
This past weekend, Blackstone founder and philanthropist Stephen A. Schwarzman announced a $100 million personal gift to build and endow an elite scholarship program in China inspired by the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship program. Washington University Provost Edward S. Macias, who serves as a member of the program’s Academic Advisory Council, was on hand for the announcement.
Summer Writers Institute now even more convenient for working professionals
The 18th annual Summer Writers Institute will be held on Washington University’s Danforth Campus this July, giving writers of varying experience levels the opportunity to join a diverse and energetic writing community. Evening sessions this year meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday instead of Monday through Friday. Also, the weekend sessions will be afternoons only instead of daylong seminars. The institute begins Friday, July 12, and runs through Friday, July 26.
Bringing the world to Brown Hall
Brown School students representing the country of Kyrgyzstan perform a traditional national Kyrgyz Dance during the Brown School’s 19th annual International Festival April 12 in Brown Hall, Brown 100. The event featured 13 performances from 17 countries.
WUSTL celebrates Earth Week April 22-26
WUSTL is celebrating Earth Day Monday, April 22, and many sustainability-themed events are planned for the week of April 22-26 on the Danforth and Medical campuses. On Monday, there with be an Earth Week Kickoff in Edison Courtyard and a climate change panel discussion featuring faculty from across the university.
PB&Joy drive ends today
Today is the final day for PB&Joy, a university-wide initiative, in partnership with Operation Food Search, to collect food for the 135,000 area children who struggle for consistent meals over summer when school is out. It’s not to late to take part. There are many food drop-off locations across WUSTL’s four campuses and it’s also possible to make contributions online.
Women in IT mentoring program kickoff scheduled
The opening session of “SPIN-IT: A Leadership Program for Women in IT” will be held April 24. The event features a guest speaker, Vivian Eveloff, director of the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The event is open to members of the WUSTL community, but space is limited.

Doctoral students can hone entrepreneurial skills with new citation
Doctoral students who are interested in developing their entrepreneurial skills now have the option of earning the new Entrepreneurship Citation offered by the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.
