Semester Online student information sessions Aug. 24 and 25

Semester Online is a first-of-its-kind program offering rigorous online courses for credit from prestigious colleges and universities, including Washington University in St. Louis. Students can learn more about this program from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Mallinckrodt Center lobby and from 6-8p.m. in the Bear’s Den on Aug. 24 and 25. The deadline for applying for Semester Online courses is Aug. 26.

Used dorm supplies sale on Aug. 22 ​​

Attention new Washington University students: if there’s something you need to complete your new space, look no further than campus. Sharing With A Purpose (SWAP) is holding a dorm supplies sale from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, on the South 40 basketball court.

Workplace safety training sessions offered this fall

As part of Washington University’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for university employees and students, the university is offering workplace safety training sessions. The one-hour free training class for employees and students will be offered six times this fall semester, starting Monday, Aug. 19. 

Semester Online registration extended until Aug. 26

Washington University students still can enroll in one of the 11 online courses being offered this fall through Semester Online, a consortium of top peer universities. Students have until Aug. 26 to register. Courses include a live weekly class plus pre-produced online content that engages students, such as guest interviews and panel discussions.

Students feel at home during new WUSTL summer internship program

Nineteen students took part in the Summer Associates Program, which offered WUSTL students on-campus internships and built on theory and skills learned in the classroom. The program also offered professional development seminars on subjects such as networking, interviewing and résumé building. The pilot program may be expanded next year.

For Cycles — a spring 2013 Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts Commons course taught by Lindsey Stouffer, senior lecturer — students designed and built human-powered vehicles from discarded bicycles. They worked in collaboration with student mechanics involved with St. Louis Bicycle Works (Bworks).
