Olin Library expands overnight hours
Following a successful trial run during the 2012-2013 academic year, Olin Library has expanded 24-hour access to five nights a week. Olin Library is now open from 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings when fall and spring semester classes are in session.
MetroLink repairs close portions of the 276 Skinker Building sidewalk
Portions of the 276 Skinker Building south sidewalk will be closed as Metro repairs a collapsed beam. Work should last two to three weeks.
Family law expert hosts film screening Sept. 23

Global Certificate information session Sept. 18
An information session about the Global Certificate Program will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Seigle Hall, Room 206. The Global Certificate is an interdisciplinary program designed to expose Washington University undergraduate students to diverse perspectives and teach them practical skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic international landscape.
Obituary: Helen Power, former coordinator of women’s studies, 77
Helen Power, PhD, who made an indelible mark on the women’s studies program at Washington University in St. Louis, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013. Power, who was 77, suffered a heart attack at her home in St. Louis. A memorial service was held on campus Sunday, Sept. 8.
Global Diversity program holds Chile trip reception
The Global Diversity Overseas Seminar Program (GDOS) will host a photo exhibit and reception in the Weitman Gallery (lower level of Steinberg Hall) 4:30–6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Six Washington University in St. Louis staff members traveled to Santiago, Chile, in June through the program and explored several issues related to diversity and social justice.

Helen Power, PhD, whose career as a lecturer of English and of women’s studies, both in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, spanned more than 30 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, after suffering a heart attack at her home in St. Louis. She was 77. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in Hurst Lounge, Duncker Hall.
WUSTL urban studies scholar Carol Camp Yeakey named AERA fellow
Carol Camp Yeakey, PhD, founding director of the
interdisciplinary program in Urban Studies and of the Center on Urban
Research and Public Policy at Washington University in St. Louis, is one
of 23 scholars selected as 2013 fellows by the American Educational
Research Association.
Work-study students available to fill campus jobs
Work-study students are available to perform a variety of campus jobs. The federal government will cover 45 percent of a student’s wages.
Freedman to lecture on continuing education for older adults
Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Encore.org, will deliver a lecture about the role higher education can play in supporting adults looking for a career change in their second half of life. The talk will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Mildred E. Bastian Theatre at St. Louis Community College Forest Park Campus. Sponsors are the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis; the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging at WUSTL’s Institute for Public Health; St. Louis Community College Continuing Education; and the OASIS Institute.
