Brown School honors distinguished alumni
The 33rd annual Brown School Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented in the Clark-Fox Forum of Hillman Hall. Six awardees were honored for their exceptional commitments to the fields of social work and public health.
Fields named assistant dean for student success
Harvey Fields, assistant director for academic programs at Cornerstone, the Center for Advanced Learning, has been named assistant dean for student success. The position is a new one that will advance the university’s commitment to better serve low-income and first-generation students.
Gruev named SIU distinguished alumnus
The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association will honor Viktor Gruev, of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, as the recipient of the 2016 SIU Distinguished Alumni Award for Young Alumni Achievement.

Bear Balance Week begins March 28
The Health and Wellness Committee is hosting Bear Balance Week to celebrate and encourage fitness and nutrition. The inaugural week, March 28-April 1, includes free yoga, kickboxing and spinning.

Baugh selected as Bellagio Center resident scholar
John Baugh, the Margaret Bush Wilson Professor in Arts & Sciences, will begin research for a new book on linguistic profiling as part of an April 2016 scholar-in-residence program at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center on Lake Como in Italy.
