John DiPersio, MD, PhD, director of the Division of Oncology and deputy director of Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected to the top leadership post in the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He will take over the role during the society’s meetings in Salt Lake City later in February.

As a historian of religion and foreign policy in the United States, I know that this is not the first time Americans have disagreed about the meaning of religious freedom. Washington University in St. Louis has received a $10,000 grant from the nonprofit group Transforming Youth Recovery to assist students in recovery from substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. The group’s first meeting will be Feb. 28.
