Four students at Washington University in St. Louis have received the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, a prestigious award that honors students who conduct research in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.

Mae Jemison, an engineer, physician and the first woman of color to travel into space, will deliver the 2022 Commencement address at Washington University in St. Louis, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin. The university’s 161st Commencement ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, May 20, on Francis Olympic Field on the Danforth Campus.

The Center for Diversity and (CDI) Inclusion invites students to apply to be a CDI fellow. The program provides an opportunity for students to launch innovative new ideas to advance diversity, equity and inclusion on the Danforth Campus. The deadline is April 8.

Undergraduate and graduate students who love collecting books can submit entries for this year’s Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition. The deadline is March 11, and winners can receive up to $1,000.

Sean Spinks, former director of academic success at Harris-Stowe State University, has been appointed director of the Danforth Scholars program at Washington University, according to Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. Spinks, who began Feb. 1, is the program’s first full-time director.

The Washington University men’s and women’s track and field teams both won the University Athletic Association Indoor Championship Feb. 27 in Cleveland.
