Washington University in St. Louis has been selected to join the First Scholars Network by the Center for First-generation Student Success, an initiative of NASPA and The Suder Foundation. 

Students from the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering competed in the WERC Environmental Design Contest as a part of their environmental engineering capstone course, winning second place in the bench-scale competition.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation has named Washington University rising senior Avital Isakov an Astronaut Scholar. The prestigious fellowship is for college juniors and seniors who are studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Bloomberg Philanthropies has recognized Washington University in St. Louis as an American Talent Initiative High-Flier, a group of 28 high-graduation-rate institutions that are national leaders in college access and success for lower-income students.

In his remarks to the Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2023, Chancellor Andrew D. Martin encouraged graduates to “remember your resilience, and use your creativity, your curiosity, your care and your courage to change the world.”

Graduate student speaker Nicholas Armstrong, who earned a juris doctor from the School of Law, told the Class of 2023 that what starts at WashU can change the world.

Undergraduate student speaker Samm Kaiser, who earned a degree in computer science and math from the McKelvey School of Engineering and in environmental analysis from Arts & Sciences, explained why life’s contraindications are both necessary and enlightening.
