WashU alumni are partnering with their alma mater to improve teacher quality and retention.

The university’s crisis response fund will continue to support employees affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Applications for assistance open Monday, Oct. 12, and will remain open through Oct. 30. The fund already has distributed support to student applicants this fall.

Washington University’s College Prep Program is accepting nominations for the next cohort of its innovative college readiness initiative. The nomination deadline is Oct. 30.

Washington University made a big impact on the St. Louis economy in fiscal year 2019, spending $2.7 billion in the region. A new report shows the university spent $1.6 billion in salaries, $301 million in goods and services and $232 million in construction. The university also continued to draw top talent and research dollars to the region, provide exceptional patient care and support local schools and community organizations. 

The Washington University in St. Louis community is invited to gather together virtually at noon Thursday, Oct. 8, for “Reflections: Remember & Recommit,” an event that will provide a space for grief and hope during this extraordinary time.

Washington University has begun a process to examine public safety and policing on the Danforth Campus and in nearby neighborhoods. As an important first step, a committee comprising students, faculty, staff and alumni has been formed to lead this critical work.

Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor and chief administrative officer, will transition to the newly created role of executive vice chancellor for civic affairs and strategic planning, with a sharp focus on regional equitable economic development, community engagement and partnership with the university’s neighborhoods and civic and community leaders.

The Institute for School Partnership at Washington University in St. Louis has launched a comprehensive COVID-19 curriculum. The free unit can be adapted for both synchronous and asynchronous learning and helps middle school students understand the history of infectious disease, the nature of COVID-19, the power and limitations of modeling and the importance of scientific literacy.
