Alumni and friends gathered for the Founders Day dinner Nov. 5, 2011, at the St. Louis Union Station Marriott. Doris Kearns Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, was this year’s guest speaker.
Richard Stang, professor emeritus of English, 86
Richard Stang, PhD, professor emeritus of English in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Dec. 14, 2011, of pancreatic cancer. He was 86. Stang specialized in 19th-century English literature, particularly the Victorian period.
Seetharaman named W. Patrick McGinnis Professor of Marketing
Seethu Seetharaman, PhD, was recently installed as the W. Patrick McGinnis Professor of Marketing in the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. The ceremony, held Oct. 26 in the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center, included welcoming remarks by Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton and an address by Seetharaman.

Bill Vann, lecturer in graphic illustration from 1978-1982, died suddenly in his sleep at his home in Webster Groves, Mo., Dec. 5, 2011. He was 71.
Sports update Dec. 5: Men’s basketball shocks Augustana to win Lopata Classic
The men’s basketball team upset No. 1 and previously unbeaten Augustana College, 71-68, to win the 28th Annual Lopata Classic Dec. 3 at the WU Field House. Updates also included on women’s basketball, swimming and diving, track and field, and the 2011 class of inductees into the Washington University Sports Hall of Fame.
