William F. Tate, PhD, the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences and chair of the Department of Education at Washington University, has been named the next dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and vice provost for graduate education.

Alumna Laura E. Knights has always been driven to help people and serve her community, a lesson instilled first by her parents and reinforced at Washington University, where Knights was an Ervin Scholar and counted the late Dean James E. McLeod among her mentors.

The student-managed carnival is one of the university’s longest-running traditions, delighting carnival-goers since 1907.

Washington University freshman Michael Lagieski set a meet and school record on his way to winning the men’s 100 breaststroke at the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.

The winter weather did not deter members of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society as they gathered for the 18th Annual Eliot Family Night, enjoying a festive dinner and exciting Bears basketball in the Athletics Complex.

Participants in the 24th annual Pow Wow at Washington University in St. Louis take part in the Grand Entry in the Field House April 5. The annual event, hosted by the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies at the Brown School, offered visitors and participants a full day of dancing, singing, arts, crafts and food.

About 1,900 WUSTL alumni and friends plan to be on campus for Reunion at Thurtene Carnival this weekend. They can enjoy tours, classes and trips to St. Louis attractions.

On Friday, April 11, Washington University in St. Louis will break ground on the new Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center. The center is part of a $54 million renovation and expansion of the university Athletic Complex — the first significant update since 1985.

Participants light the luminaries April 5 during the Relay For Life of Washington University in St. Louis. Relay for Life is a 12-hour event held at Francis Field annually. More then 1,500 participants form teams of 8-15 people and raise awareness and support for the American Cancer Society with the goal of finding a cure for cancer in our lifetime.
