Steven C. George, MD, PhD, has been named chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, effective July 1, 2014. George is professor of biomedical engineering and of chemical engineering and materials science at the University of California, Irvine. In addition, he is the Edwards Lifesciences Professor and director of the Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology.

Washington University in St. Louis faculty and administrators recognized the December degree candidates during a ceremony, held Dec. 7 in Graham Chapel. WUSTL trustee Maxine K. Washington University in St. Louis Emeritus Trustee Harvey Saligman died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. He was 75. He established the Harvey and Linda Saligman Multiple Myeloma Research Fund to find new treatments for the deadly blood cancer.

David A. Winters, a first-year professional master’s in business administration student at Olin Business School, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, following a vehicle collision on Interstate 44 near Sullivan. He was 34.

In 1974, Walt Reed opened the Illustration House. For decades, the New York gallery was the nation’s premier advocate for illustration art. Now, Washington University Special Collections has worked with Reed and his son, Roger, to acquire the Illustration House archives, along with a substantial number of original artworks.
