Mokhtar H. Gado, MD, professor emeritus and for decades a leading researcher at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the School of Medicine, died of colon cancer April 28, 2016, in St. Louis. He was 84. He was noted for his work with neurological diseases and research involving brain and spine imaging.

When Thomas Cheong, EMBA ’13 (Shanghai), entered the Washington University–Fudan University Executive MBA program, he had already been working for 20 years, becoming a CFO at age 32 and a CEO by age 40. But he was still able to learn a lot, improved his classmates learning experience, and helped make the program even more global.

The university’s new office in Shanghai has helped raise it’s profile significantly, and behind every success is Bill Xu, head of the China office.

Robert Charles Strunk, MD, a beloved and acclaimed pediatric allergist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died of cardiac arrest Thursday, April 28, 2016, in his native Chicago. He was 73.

Cathy Rodgers, former fashion design faculty member in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, died April 6 at her home in Ladue. She was 87. She taught tailoring and pattern-making to generations of designers, including such fashion luminaries as Carolyne Roehm, Kay Unger, Judd Waddell and Paul Dillinger.

James W. Davis, professor emeritus of political science at Washington University in St. Louis, a role model for faculty who was also beloved by students for decades, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was 80.

Each academic year, students from Washington University distinguish themselves at two annual mathematics competitions: The North American Putnam Competition, in which this year the team finished eighth; and the Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition, in which the team tied for first with a perfect score.
